The Hotel Tintoretto is located on a typical Venetian square on Strada Nuova, behind the Santa Fosca Church, easily accessible, only about ten minutes walk, to the train stations of Santa Lucia and Rialto.
From Rialto, where you can view the famous bridge and market, walk a few minutes along the Mercerie, through the boutiques and stores, to San Marco Square and discover the splendor of its basilica and Doges Palace, former seat of the government of the Republic of Venice.
The Hotel Tintoretto is near the Venice Casino and just a few vaporetto stops along the Grand Canal from the bus terminal at Piazzale Roma to see the Lido di Venezia, home to the prestigious Venice International Film Festival.
The Venice Ghetto is also near the hotel. The Ghetto is the oldest Jewish quarter in Europe – vibrant and unique – with its kosher restaurants and historic synagogue. One of the most interesting areas of Venice.
One of the truly uniquely Venetian districts, Cannaregio has beautiful and quiet corners mixed with vivacious tourist areas, where the soul of this great city is still in-tact. The Hotel Tintoretto is behind the 16th century Santa Fosca Church (restored in the 18th century) which is behind a monument to Paolo Sarpi, the 16th century Italian theologian and scientist.
The Ghetto, the bacari (Italian style pubs) and Mr. Rioba
The Cannaregio District has the most authentic Venetian atmosphere: Intersecting alleys, quaint stores and bacari (Italian style pubs) often frequented only by the Venetians. Among its charming hidden, patchwork corners rests the statue of Signor Rioba in dei Mori. Rubbing Signor Rioba’s nose is said to bring good luck. At the bottom of the Mori you will find the house of Tintoretto, one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance. o.
Less than 250 meters (a quarter mile) a walk along the Fondamenta degli Ormesini leads to the historic Jewish Ghetto, where a very different Venice can be found, in its tall houses with low ceilings, synagogue and excellent Jewish restaurants that serve kosher cuisine.
